Does The Snorkel Have A Purge Valve?
A purge valve is simply a one way valve that allows you to expel water from the bottom of your snorkel after you have dived down rather than have to forced the water all the way back up the tube. In reality its a must have for snorkelling.
Does The Snorkel Have A Wave Chamber?
A wave chamber or deflector is also worth considering when buying a snorkel as having one makes for a much more comfortable snorkelling experience. Essentially a wave chamber stops any water from breaking waves coming down the snorkel into your mouth by diverting the water away from the air passage.
Ensuring It Fits Correctly
To make sure your snorkel fits correctly clip the snorkel onto your mask and put the mouthpiece in your mouth if it feels comfortable thens its perfect, if its not adjust the clip over the mask strap and try again until its right.
