What foot pocket do I need? Full foot or adjustable heel?
For snorkelling you would generally want a full foot fin. Essentially this is a fin which includes a full foot pocket. You do not need boots to use this sort fin, making them ideal for snorkelling. Open heel fins which have to be worn with boots are generally used by divers in cold waters where thermal insulation and greater propulsion is required.

Should I consider split fins?
Split fins can be up to 40% more efficient than traditional style fins. They achieve this by channelling the water off the fin in such a way what is creates a spiralling vortex of water, dramatically increasing the thrust. At the same time the pressure level on the back of the fin is reduced (much like a wing) which creates lift, further helping to propel you forward.

How do I know if my fins fit correctly?
Fins should be snug on your foot but not over tight. A good test to see if a fin will stay on is to step forward with your other foot and see if your heel comes out of the foot pocket. If the fin bends and your foot stays in the pocket the fit is correct.
